The Volunteer fire service is deeply rooted in American
history and tradition. George Washington, Thomas
Jefferson, and Samuel Adams were all Volunteer firefighters.
Benjamin Franklin is known as the father of American Volunteer firefighting when he started the Union Fire Company in
Philadelphia. Many of the history’s greatest fires known were
extinguished by volunteer firefighters.
For 85% of the United States today, volunteer firefighters are the first responders.
This project is to show the world the faces of their neighbors who sacrifice their lives to protect their community.
